Beware of Yahoo Phishing Emails

After reading a blog post from Search Commander it has come to our attention that there are Yahoo phishing* emails going around.

These phishing emails are taking advantage of people’s uncertainty regarding the Yahoo and MSN merger and are aimed at having account holders unknowingly give their usernames and passwords away to fraudsters.  We, as an agency, have not received any of these emails yet, but they are quite well put together so beware.

As a quick tip I would NEVER click on any links in emails of this nature, whether it is real or not.  Instead, always log into the search engine interface or call your rep (or the customer service number) to be advised whether this is a necessary action.

So, just keep an eye out, and don’t unnecessarily give your details out to fraudsters.

* Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication (from Wikipedia)
